Just over a month ago, I posted a list of all the châteaux in the Loire Valley and provided what information I could gather about their pet policies. But what if you’re headed to Germany or the Czech Republic instead? Reader Hazel posted a message on Dog Jaunt’s Facebook page asking if anyone knew whether pet dogs are welcome at the castles that line “Castle Road” (or “Burgenstraße,” in German). I didn’t, but I had wonderful memories of castle-hopping in … Read more

This post was inspired by a chat with reader Jenna, who gave me breakfast just before she and Tara, her French Bulldog, left Paris for the Loire Valley. A tremendous researcher, she had created a Google map of all the dog-friendly Paris locations she’d learned about; and, separately, she’d made some notes from a post of mine about reader Christie’s experiences at several châteaux. Why not combine the two concepts, I thought, and create a map of Loire Valley châteaux … Read more
I was poking around the Internet today and came across a story that seemed perfect for Dog Jaunt in so many ways: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of the U.S. includes, in its summary of the breed’s history, a note that “So fond was King Charles II of his little dogs, he wrote a decree that the King Charles Spaniel should be accepted in any public place, even in the Houses of Parliament where animals were not usually allowed. … Read more

Why not make someone’s life a little easier?
Keep in mind that this info is current as … Read more
Almost a month ago, I wrote a post about having The Conversation in French — you know, the conversation you have with the other dog owners you meet during a walk (“What a great dog! What kind is she? How old is she?” and so on). Shortly after I posted it, I realized that I hadn’t asked Melanie, my Parisian friend (and a skilled linguist), for help with a phrase I suspect I’ll use … Read more
Someone reached Dog Jaunt via this query yesterday, and it’s question I’ll have, too, when I head off to NYC next week for the TBEX bloggers conference. Happily, it’s easily answered, because the Central Park Conservancy, in its wisdom, created Central Park PAWS, whose website is a key part of its mission to keep a dialogue going between the park and the many, many dog owners who love the park.
Look at the Park Guide page for all the details and … Read more
