We fly on Virgin America several times a year, but always, to date, on one of their Airbus 320 planes, never on an A-319. In fact, I’d concluded they only had A-320s, so my tape measure was well of out reach when I saw the A-319 emergency card. Traveling from Seattle to Tampa recently, Chloe and I occupied the same seat (8F) on two different Boeing 737-800/900 series planes. Please note that that’s an Economy Plus seat — while the under-seat spaces are the same throughout the Coach section, Economy Plus gives you a few more inches of pitch, so you can reach down to your pet more easily. If your budget allows it, it makes a world of difference.

The Teafco Argo Petascope is a handsome carrier, but long ago I’d decided that only the small size would work in-cabin — and at 18″L x 10.5″W x 9″H, it’s too small for Chloe. A friend of Dog Jaunt’s though, reported on Twitter that she’d traveled successfully on a Delta 767 with Hondo, her mixed-breed pup, in a medium-sized Petascope (23″L x 11.5″W x 11.5″H). She kindly agreed that I could post her picture and info on Dog Jaunt:
I’d never flown on a 767 before, and I still can’t decide, two days later, what I thought of the experience. What I do know is that getting a seat in at least Economy Plus is crucial for an international flight with a pet: I walked past the Economy seats on my trip to the bathroom, and the pitch was something terrible. I don’t think I could have managed to reach down to Chloe in the space available.
