This week’s links about dog-friendly destinations start with petswelcome.com‘s list of three California getaways — one at Lake Tahoe, one on the coast in Cambria (near San Simeon), and the third in Julian, in the Cuyamaca mountains east of San Diego. Across the country, Jessica Marati wrote a post for Gadling about New York City’s best food trucks — food trucks are a terrific resource for visitors with dogs. Heading north, the Montecristo Travels team described a wonderful visit to … Read more

Remember Sophie, the adorable Cavalier puppy featured in a recent post about the Bellevue Sheraton? Jen and Troy, her owners, sent me a clutch of photos to share with you from a day spent romping around the Bellingham area. Bellingham is a pretty town about 90 miles north of Seattle — it’s a fun place to spend an afternoon or a weekend, and its shops and restaurants are reputed to be very dog-friendly. [7/29/11 Don’t miss Jen’s comment, below, full … Read more
It’s all about the destinations this week. I’ll start in New England (well, -ish, because the article touches down all over the United States, but it starts in New England) with a PDF from Fido Friendly about ten lovely and dog-friendly B&B inns (when the link comes up, click on the picture to reach the article, in PDF format).
Moving clockwise around the U.S., PetsWelcome.com posted a useful list of fenced dog parks in Raleigh, NC, the Take Paws team visited … Read more
Here’s a link that should have been in yesterday’s Chloe’s Clicks: The Oregon Parks & Recreation Department’s post (“Let your dog sniff where lilies thrived“) about the new off-leash dog area at McVay Rock State Recreation Site, a park on the Oregon coast halfway between Brookings and the California border. I’m glad, now, that I forgot it, because it’s worth a post of its own. The OPRD makes it blessedly easy for … Read more
Happy New Year, friends! On a looking-forward day like today, I’m looking back at last week, at posts like this one from Fido Friendly‘s blog, written by Helen Fazio (who’s also guest-posted on Dog Jaunt). She and Raja, her Shih Tzu, describe a couple of dog-friendly winter vacation options — in Mt. Tremblant, Canada (not far from Montreal) and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Take a look, too, at the guest post on All Things Dog Blog by Fido Friendly‘s Carol … Read more
This year we went to a state park in southern Tennessee for my husband’s family’s reunion, but in past years we’ve gone to Joe Wheeler State Park in northwest Alabama. We didn’t have Chloe then, but she would have been welcome in three of the cabins. Highlights of Joe Wheeler’s pet policy? There is a fee of $10 per pet per night, and dogs must be leashed whenever they leave the cabin. Pets are not allowed on the beach or in … Read more
It’s time once again for the nearly-annual reunion of my husband’s family, and this year it is being held at Pickwick Landing State Park. Every Tennessee state park sets aside a limited number of inn rooms, and one cabin per park, where you may stay with a pet, and we reserved a room a couple of months ago (the park service suggests making your reservations “several weeks in advance”).
The Tennessee state park pet policy is set out in detail on … Read more
