This has been an outstanding couple of weeks for dog travel links. Leading the pack is the Take Paws team, which wrote a bunch of great posts, but I want to highlight their post about U.S. national parks (so often not terribly dog-friendly) and national forests (overlooked, but beautiful and more welcoming to dogs) and their post about visiting several dog-friendly Russian River wineries.
Sticking with the West Coast, check out this post from Young Hollywood listing eight dog-friendly places to … Read more
I have two weeks’ worth of dog travel links to tell you about, so sit down, shut up and hang on, as the bumper sticker says. This time of year, it’s all about the winter getaways, starting with a petswelcome.com post about dog-friendly hotels in Miami, Vermont and Monterey, and another post from the same folks about dog-friendly things to do in beautiful Santa Barbara. Kim Swidler, from timesunion.com, wrote a quick note about the Kiawah Island Golf Resort (located just south … Read more
My recent posts about our trip last week to Boulder and Denver prompted a blogging friend who lives outside Boulder, CO to add a couple of comments revealing how un-friendly to dogs Boulder really is. I had learned for myself that few Boulder hotels welcome dogs, but Deborah (who writes the great blog Boulder Dog) told me about inadequate local dog parks, and a bizarre no-dogs-allowed policy on Boulder’s famous Pearl Street pedestrian mall. They have ten minutes and will be scored on their top two waves.” Heat One (for small dogs) was won by Abbie, an Australian Kelpie. Here’s a picture of a dog learning … Read more
Lots of links to tell you about this week! Let’s start with Travel with Whippets, coming from an RV somewhere in the U.S., which posted a very positive review of the very dog-friendly Four Paws Kingdom Campground in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, NC. Good news: “You don’t even have to own an RV to camp here; they also rent little dog-friendly cottages or parked RVs, complete with fenced, gated front porches … Read more
I just got my copy of the August 2009 Sunset Magazine, and was delighted to see that it includes a great article listing “Our 10 favorite dog-friendly spots for canine quality time.” Some I already knew about — we live near Orcas Island, and used to live near Carmel, CA — but even in those two locations, Sunset found a couple of beaches and a resort that we need to try. The other locations are Denver, Coronado, Los Angeles, Tucson, … Read more
