BHV (short for “Bazaar Hôtel de Ville”) is a great department store in central Paris. I love it because it has a little bit of everything, which is old-fashioned and charming and useful. My favorite sight? DIY folks emerging from the basement home reno section clutching lengths of lumber and PVC pipe, negotiating their way around the fashionistas on the ground floor. It has spun out some of its departments into nearby stores of their own, including the men’s store, … Read more

I just love Dog Jaunt’s readers. In the past week alone, you’ve told me about an outstanding dog-friendly beach near Rome, crawled around an Alaska plane measuring its under-seat spaces, and prompted me to check out a new in-cabin dog carrier. The same people who brought you SnifNYCDogs — which I love for its wonderful interactive dog map of the five boroughs — have started SnifBostonDogs, and are building a similar map for Boston and environs. It’s still under construction, but it already shows a number of dog parks, stores and bakeries. Check it out, and if you live in the Boston area, send them suggestions!

Each geographical location is clearly divided into helpful categories: dog parks, hikes and dog-tolerant parks, dog-friendly activities, dog-tolerant hotels and campgrounds, pet stores, doggy daycare and grooming, vets and emergency care, and shelters. In a complicated area, like Seattle, the parks and services are grouped by neighborhood.
It was published in 2005, so it’s … Read more
