I’m editing my master packing list today by adding “extra leash and harness” to it. On a recent road trip I misplaced Chloe’s leash, and although I eventually found it, the experience drove home the lesson that traveling with only one leash and harness is too risky. It would have been really difficult to get a leash-free Chloe safely to a pet store to buy a replacement — be warned!
You’ve seen it, of course: an adorable, small dog either standing on her owner’s lap while her owner drives or with her front paws on the passenger-side door panel, nose blissfully out the open window and ears flapping in the wind. She loves it! She’s in heaven! She’s also really, really unsafe!!

Half of my car’s back seat is occupied by Chloe’s Snoozer (medium) Lookout Model I, which she and I both like. It’s too bulky to travel with, however, and for trips where we plan to rent or travel in a car, I pack a safety harness for her. Finding one that worked, however, took some doing.
