Product review: Sherpa to Go Pincheck Folding Car Seat

Normally when I drive with Chloe in a rental car, I keep her safe with a combination of a CanineFriendly 3-in-1 vest harness and the strap from the PetBuckle seat belt harness kit. The two components fit tidily into the PetBuckle kit bag, and occupy almost no room at all in Chloe’s suitcase. When we reach our destination, it’s easy to grab the kit and click her strap onto the rental car’s latch bar.

On this trip, however, I reconsidered. I  … Read more

Product review: Land’s End car seat cover

One of the items on Dog Jaunt’s travel packing list is a towel to put between your dog and a car seat, whether it’s a rental car or a car you’re borrowing from the folks you’re visiting. In real life, I’ve been using a Zentek crate pad instead of a towel, because I’m impressed by the magic material Zentek uses and because it packs compactly. Favorite car restraints for a small dog

Traveling by car with a small dog: How it works

Last weekend, Chloe and I flew to Chicago to meet my oldest niece, just finishing her first year at college. I rented a minivan and we filled it with my niece’s stuff and drove to Minneapolis-St. Paul. Chloe and I had driven together before for two or three hours at a time, but that was in my own car, equipped with Chloe’s beloved Snoozer Lookout, and leaving from our own driveway. This took more preparation.

Traveling by car with a small dog: Ready, set…

You’ve seen it, of course: an adorable, small dog either standing on her owner’s lap while her owner drives or with her front paws on the passenger-side door panel, nose blissfully out the open window and ears flapping in the wind. She loves it! She’s in heaven! She’s also really, really unsafe!!

If I’m describing you and your dog, believe me, I know you’re a terrific driver. Hey, I am too. But remember all those crazy drivers you  … Read more
