I keep a collapsible water bowl in my purse, and in our cars, and for years my choice was Canine Hardware’s Hydro Bowl — as I said back in 2009, “it’s small enough to fit in my purse or a pocket. Unfolded, it’s sturdy enough to stay reliably upright, it’s shallow, and its opening is wide and holds its shape pretty well. (Chloe gets spooked when her bowls close their jaws shut on her muzzle.) It’s also definitely waterproof.” After … Read more

Reader Liberty posted this picture on Dog Jaunt’s Facebook page on September 21, and before the pixels had a chance to settle I begged her to write a guest post about what she’d done to create such a gorgeous and safe-looking bike system for her and her two dogs:
She kindly agreed, wrote her post immediately, and here it is, at too darned long-last (the photo captions are mine). Please note, up front, that the silver Road Hound carrier … Read more
Paris’s citywide bike-on-demand system was just being installed the last time we visited, and we exclaimed in disbelief as impeccably dressed people (including women in skirts and heels —but not helmets, no, never helmets) launched themselves into the maelstrom of traffic on the Rue de Rivoli. More power to them, we thought, but join them? Non. Jamais.
Jamais is a long time, though, and the last of our hesitation disappeared … Read more
Too many weeks have gone by, and the heap of pet travel links is spilling onto the floor. Time to get to work:
The oldest link in the stack is also the saddest. Blogger Helen Fazio, who writes Travels With My Dog, posted a cautionary tale about a friend’s dog, a retractable leash, and a really horrible death. Not too long ago, I wrote a quick post on Dog Jaunt’s Facebook page about a similar near-miss I had just seen at … Read more
This week’s links about dog-friendly destinations start with petswelcome.com‘s list of three California getaways — one at Lake Tahoe, one on the coast in Cambria (near San Simeon), and the third in Julian, in the Cuyamaca mountains east of San Diego. Across the country, Jessica Marati wrote a post for Gadling about New York City’s best food trucks — food trucks are a terrific resource for visitors with dogs. Heading north, the Montecristo Travels team described a wonderful visit to … Read more
This week’s collection of dog travel links is a nicely-balanced blend of adventure and caution. On the adventure side, check out youdidwhatwithyourwiener‘s what-the-hell-why-not post about buying a dog trailer and taking it and the dogs for an inaugural bike ride from Mukilteo (just north of Seattle) to Langley (on the east side of Whidbey Island). The trip sounds like a total hoot — Langley was delightfully dog-friendly, and the dog trailer was a brilliant idea, and you have to read … Read more
It’s spring for sure in the Washington D.C. area, where my friends took this picture of their son Paul heading out for a bike ride with Tip, their Papillon:
I’d love to see how you and your pup spent your time together this week — please post your photos on Dog Jaunt’s Facebook page so we can all see them!
Today’s photos were sent to me by reader Meg, who lives in Geneva, Switzerland with Cooper, her five month-old Jack Russell Terrier puppy.
This one’s a tiny bit blurry, but I’m so glad Meg sent it — isn’t it wonderful?!
I’d love to see your pup, and hear what you’ve been up to together this week — please post your photos on Dog Jaunt’s Facebook page … Read more
This is a guest post from Kim Garrison, a friend I met through Twitter (follow her at @kimhalligan1 or @jerseyshoredogs). Kim is the guardian of six (6) dogs, including three Lab mixes (mom Sequel and two of her pups, Stanley and Stella), two Japanese Chins (Oscar and Spencer), and Olive the Chihuahua. Kim bikes with some of her dogs, including the Japanese Chins, which are about the same size as Chloe — so of … Read more
This week’s photo was taken nearly two years ago in Lu Jia Zui, the financial district of Shanghai. Love it — what elegance! (I’m not convinced that the leash looped around the bike’s handlebars would do much in an emergency, but at least the owner was trying….)
Please send me links to your favorite dog travel photos! They’ll get listed below, for everyone to click on and enjoy. Here’s how it works:
Every Friday, I’ll put up a post … Read more
