Reader’s report: Under-seat space in an American MD-80 (First Class)

Another Dog Jaunt reader sent in a report, almost a year ago now, about the under-seat space she encountered on an American MD-80, but she was traveling in an Economy seat. There’s a world of difference between Economy and First Class seating — and indeed, often you can’t fit a pet carrier under a First Class seat at all — so I was grateful to hear from reader Kelly, who traveled with her husband and their two dogs (a 17 lb.… Read the rest

Reader’s report: Flying with an in-cabin pet on an American Airlines CRJ-700 and MD-80

Reader Eva took a couple of flights with her cat Bogart last month, and kindly send me a report about the under-seat spaces she encountered. They flew on American, and their planes were a CRJ-700 and an MD-80. Bogart’s carrier is an older hard-sided Petmate Kennel Cab measuring 19″ x 11″ x (just over) 10″ (Eva noted that the current version has slightly different measurements: 19″ x 12.6″ x 10″).… Read the rest

Reader’s report: Which seat works best with an in-cabin dog? [US Airways partner flights on CRJ-200 and CRJ-900 aircraft]

Reader Kristen recently traveled on two regional US Airways flights (an Air Wisconsin partner flight and a Piedmont Air partner flight). She posted a report on Dog Jaunt’s Facebook page about the under-seat space she found on both CRJ planes, and kindly agreed to let me re-post it here on the blog: “I searched high and low for info on CRJs — I’m happy to share it with others :)”

Just flew US AIR — first a CRJ-200 (Air Wisconsin partner flight) then a CRJ-900 (Piedmont Air partner flight).… Read the rest

Which seat works best with an in-cabin dog? [American 737 -800]

I hardly ever fly on American, so I was pleased to find myself flying from Seattle to Dallas and back recently on a couple of American’s 737 (-800 series) planes. I was in Economy class, but the under-seat spaces in First Class looked the same (keep in mind, though, that I only had brief chances to glance, from walking height, at the First Class spaces).… Read the rest

Which seat works best with an in-cabin dog? [Continental 737-800/900]

I flew on two separate Continental 737s last week, both -800/900 series planes, and there were dramatic differences in their under-seat spaces. On both flights, I was in Economy class. I had purchased seats with extra leg room (which I always recommend when you’re traveling with an in-cabin dog, though I know it’s not always financially feasible), but the under-seat spaces for those seats are not any different from the regular Economy seats.… Read the rest
