Earlier this year (okay, much earlier this year), reader Diane sent me a message about how she’d handled a trip from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles with her pup Biscuit. When I first started writing this post, my main concern was that most U.S. airlines won’t allow you to add your pet to your reservation on-line, so either you make your reservation and quickly call to add your dog (hoping that one of the limited number of in-cabin spaces is available), or you call to make your reservation and risk being charged an extra fee, and possibly losing out on on-line-only deals or bonus frequent flyer credits.… Read the rest
I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this excited about a piece of dog travel news. I opened an update for Alaska Airline’s “Traveling with Pets” policy, and read that as of today, August 15, 2011, Alaska “will accept cats and dogs only for travel to and from Hawaii” (emphasis in the original).… Read the rest
Amtrak doesn’t currently allow pet dogs on board, but there is one U.S. passenger train system that does: The Alaska Railroad Corporation allows you to bring your pet dog with you, with some important caveats. She must travel in “an airline-approved kennel,” and only in the baggage car.… Read the rest
