When I first started writing this post, my main concern was that most U.S. airlines won’t allow you to add your pet to your reservation on-line, so either you make your reservation and quickly call to add your dog (hoping that one of the limited number of in-cabin spaces is available), or you call to make your reservation and risk being charged an extra fee, and possibly losing out on on-line-only deals or bonus frequent flyer credits.… Read the rest
Alerted by reader Mia, I just called U.S. Airways to talk about the airline’s in-cabin pet policy. The customer service representative I spoke to confirmed that today, U.S. Air increased its fee for in-cabin pets to $125 each way (it had previously been $100).… Read the rest
This is just a quick post to highlight a recent change in Allegiant’s pet policy. In another post, I’ve mentioned the problem you sometimes run into when you make your plane reservation on-line: If you’re not able to add your pet to your reservation on-line (and most airlines don’t yet allow you to do that), you run the risk of calling to add your pet to your reservation and learning that all the spaces for in-cabin pets on your flight are already taken.… Read the rest
Virgin America now allows you to add your pet to your on-line reservation, “either during booking or by clicking ‘Anything Else?’ when viewing your itinerary.” That’s rare — of the major U.S. airlines, only Continental has a similar system in place (Northwest used to).… Read the rest
A couple of days ago, we bought tickets on JetBlue to travel to New York City later this summer. I have to go to a conference, we both want to see some friends — five days should cover it, right? Well, it’s a six-day trip now, because after I made our on-line reservations I called back to add Chloe to my ticket (as I always do), and learned that our outgoing flight already had its full complement of in-cabin pets (all airlines, except Allegiant, have a limited number of available spaces; only four in-cabin pets are allowed on JetBlue flights).… Read the rest
It costs an arm and a leg to bring your dog with you in an airplane cabin, but JetBlue sweetens the pill by adding 300 points to your TrueBlue frequent flyer account for each flight you take accompanied by your pet.… Read the rest
Continental Airlines also allows on-line reservations for pets that will travel in-cabin with you — and unlike Northwest, Continental allows you to add the pet to your initial Flight Search, so that the list of flights that are ultimately offered to you for consideration can all accommodate your dog (the flights that aren’t eligible for in-cabin pet travel are marked in red).… Read the rest
Normally, if you’re traveling with a dog you plan to carry on you either have to make your entire reservation over the phone to ensure that there’s space on your plane(s) for an in-cabin pet, or make your reservation on-line and call back to add your dog to your reservation.… Read the rest
