Hi, Kelly -- Thanks so much for your comment -- it's inspired me to start writing a post on the topic, but here's the short version. Hawaii itself has no problem with dogs arriving in-cabin, but the airlines have to jump through a few more hoops to handle quarantine, so nearly all of them choose not to allow in-cabin dogs to HI. Of the long list of airlines that fly into Honolulu (the location of HI's quarantine facilities), I could only find two that allow in-cabin dogs to land in HI. So here are your choices, as far as I know: (1) Fly into Honolulu from Vancouver, BC, via WestJet; (2) Fly into Honolulu from Inchon, via Korean Air; or (3) join a charter travel club like Dogtravel Co. (www.dogtravelcompany.net). (If you decide to have your dog travel in the hold, there are several other choices, of course, but I haven't addressed those.) I was staggered enough by the list of airlines that DON'T allow in-cabin dogs to go to HI that I think I did a good job of pressing WestJet and Korean Air to double-check their policy, but you'll want to do the same before committing to those choices. Good luck, and please let me know what you end up doing!

I am trying to move to Hawaii with my small dog. All up-to-date on the forms and procedures for the "direct release" program so she doesn't have to go through quarentine.

But just found out that it seems that no carrier allows dogs in cabin flying to Hawaii. That would mean she has to fly as checked baggage. This scares the living daylights out of me. She doesn't do well at extreme temperatures and we are leaving from snowy Denver CO and arriving mid-day in hot Honolulu. This has never been a problem before, as she has only flown in cabin.
